“The awesome power of prayer is not in persuading God to do what He is reluctant to do, but in laying hold of His highest willingness.”

Jesus said in Matthew 9:38, “Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” This is not a suggestion — it’s a command. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. At LDI, we see this reality every day: nations open to the gospel, communities hungry for truth, and churches in need of trained leaders. But without laborers, the harvest remains untouched. When you pray to the Lord of the harvest, you’re asking Him to raise up pastors, church planters, disciple-makers, and cross-cultural leaders. You’re joining Jesus in His own prayer request — and that’s one of the most powerful prayers you can ever pray.

William Carey, often called the father of modern missions, once declared, “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” But Carey didn’t go alone. Before leaving for India, he told his friend Andrew Fuller, “I will go down into the pit, if you will hold the rope.” That image has become a lasting metaphor for the role of prayer and support in missions. At LDI, we believe every missionary, every leader-in-training, and every cross-cultural disciple-maker needs rope holders — people who intercede, encourage, and sustain them through prayer. When you pray for LDI, you’re not on the sidelines. You’re holding the rope. You’re part of the mission.

Prayer Fuels the Mission

Ladies Missionary Prayer Team

Hudson Taylor, pioneer missionary to China, wrote, “The prayer power has never been tried to its full capacity. If we want to see mighty wonders of divine power and grace wrought in the place of weakness, failure, and disappointment, let us answer God’s standing challenge: ‘Call unto me, and I will answer thee.’” LDI stands in places of great opportunity and great challenge. We ask you to answer God’s challenge — to call on Him for breakthroughs in training, in travel, in transformation.

George Müller, who famously trusted God for provision without ever asking people for money, said, “The great point is to never give up ntil the answer comes.” Müller’s life was a testimony to persistent prayer. At LDI, we ask you to pray with that same tenacity — not just once, but continually. Pray for provision, for protection, and for perseverance. Pray for the students who are struggling, the churches that are weary, and the leaders who feel alone. Your persistence matters.

Attempting the Impossible

D.L. Moody once said, “If we are to do much for God, we must ask much of God.” At LDI, we believe that prayer is not a side ministry — it is the fuel behind every retreat, curriculum, and discipleship journey. Moody’s conviction reminds us that spiritual power precedes spiritual impact. We invite you to pray boldly for the leaders we train, the churches we serve, and the nations we reach. Ask God to raise up laborers, to open doors, and to grant wisdom to those preparing for cross-cultural ministry.

Shaping the World Through Prayer

E.M. Bounds wrote, “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be.” This is not poetic exaggeration — it’s a spiritual law. Bounds believed that prayer was the divine strategy for transformation. As LDI equips leaders for global missions, we ask you to shape their future through intercession. Pray for clarity in calling for the next-generation we train, for courage in leadership, and compassion and success of the LDI team in cross-cultural engagement.

Finally, we depend on prayer and invite you to band together with us and become part of LDI’s prayer network — not just as a supporter, but as a co-laborer in the spiritual work of missions.

We send ministry updates, prayer points, and occasional opportunities to support the ministry.  But primarily, this email is a prayer-letter! And, you can ask to be removed at any time!

Prayer is not preparation for the work; it is the work. As Moody, Bounds, Haggai, Müller, and Taylor remind us, missions without prayer is powerless. But missions fueled by prayer can change nations. Will you pray with us? Will you pray for us? Let’s shape the future of global leadership together — on our knees.
